Members of the media wanting information about Durham Regional Hospital services, events and patient condition reports, can contact the Marketing and Corporate Communications office at 919-470-6520.
Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
After Hours and Weekends: A marketing and corporate communications representative is on call to respond to general media inquiries, breaking news stories, and patient conditions by paging 919-470-4636 and entering the pin number 4111.
We do not provide patient condition updates between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Eastern time.
Durham Regional Hospital follows American Hospital Association guidelines, which require that media provide the hospital with a patient’s full name before we can release condition information. The hospital will release a one-word condition report on the patient’s status.
We do not report any information on child protection, victims of violence, mental health or substance abuse.
Patient Condition Definitions
- Good: Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious and comfortable. Indicators are excellent.
- Fair: Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious, but may be uncomfortable. Indicators are favorable.
- Serious: Vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill. Indicators are questionable.
- Critical: Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable.
