Volunteer Services

Durham Regional Hospital offers volunteer opportunities in direct and non-direct patient care areas. Whether you are interested in visiting people, welcoming visitors at the Information Desk or assisting with clerical work, Volunteer Services has a place for you. Volunteer Services will work with you to ensure your assignment matches your skills, interest and time commitment.

Becoming a Volunteer

The first step in becoming a volunteer is filling out an application (PDF, 34 KB).

Additionally, you will need to:

  • Interview with Volunteer Services
  • Complete regulatory paperwork, including a background check, liability waiver, understanding of limitations, and code of conduct
  • Provide references
  • Receive a TB test from Employee Health
  • Attend a day-long orientation
  • Complete a safety and compliance packet

Junior Volunteer Program

Each summer the hospital offers volunteer opportunities for teens 15-18 years of age. This provides an excellent opportunity for students to interact with health care professionals and learn in a medical environment. Read more about our Junior Volunteer Program.

Durham Regional Hospital Auxiliary

The hospital Auxiliary helps raise funds to support Durham Regional programs and services. Volunteers are welcome to participate by assisting with fundraising, participating in Auxiliary committees or serving on the governing board. Learn more about Auxiliary Services.
