Motherhood: The New Reality Show

Bring the baby, pack a lunch and join other new moms as we brainstorm tips on infant care and surviving motherhood. We will discuss coping strategies for the developmental milestones of infants, provide lactation support, offer suggestions for transitioning back to work and share resources for staying home full-time.
This class/support group is targeted to moms who are 2 – 12 weeks post-delivery, however, any new mother is welcome as often as you like. Classes are facilitated by an RN/Lactation Consultant. Often Duke Pediatricians/Residents are able to join us. One-time $10 fee for all the sessions a mom chooses to attend.

Prepared Childbirth Class Series

6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Educators trained as Lamaze certified childbirth instructors (LCCE) teach all classes at Teer House. The series of classes includes information and practice sessions on: signs and stages of labor; role of the dad/support person; vaginal and cesarean births; comfort measures including relaxation and breathing techniques; pain management options; coping with unexpected outcomes; hospital routines. This 4 class series will be Mondays/Wednesdays, December 9, 11, 16, & 18. Expectant parents are encouraged to complete the series between their 30-37th week.

We recommend you attend the hospital tour prior to beginning this series since some dates may conflict. Register early, space is limited.

Breastfeeding Class

Learn important strategies for establishing effective breastfeeding; positioning; recognizing possible challenges and avoiding potential barriers to breastfeeding. A short discussion related to pumping is included, but this is covered in-depth in Motherhood group. DAD/SUPPORT PERSON ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.

Infant Massage Class Series

This 2-part hands-on series (Wednesdays, December 11 & 18) introduces parents to the basics of infant massage, which helps parents bond with baby, aid in digestion, etc. Infants ages 1 month – 4 months may participate. All classes are taught by Certified Infant Massage Instructors. “Baby’s First Touch” massage book and massage oil provided.
Please dress baby in 2-piece (top and bottom) outfit and bring an extra blanket with the usual gear in your baby bag.

Prepared Childbirth Class (1 day intensive)

Educators trained as Lamaze certified childbirth instructors (LCCE) teach all classes at Teer House. The class includes information and practice sessions on: signs and stages of labor; role of the dad/support person; vaginal and cesarean births; comfort measures including relaxation and breathing techniques; pain management options; coping with unexpected outcomes; hospital routines. This is a one day intensive class from 8:30 am - 5:30 pm with a break mid-day for lunch on your own. Expectant parents are encouraged to complete the series between their 30-37th week.
