Q: Why are my parents nervous when I trick-or-treat?

Answer:

Sometimes it’s hard to understand why grown ups get nervous about something that’s so much fun! They just want to be sure that you have a good time and stay safe this Halloween.

There are lots of things you can do to make sure you have a ghoulishly good time.

  • Be careful in the streets. Stay in places where there’s lots of light, and sidewalks to walk on. Never go near a car or take a ride from anyone besides your parents or someone your parents told you to ride with.
  • Make sure the cars can see you! Wear a costume that reflects light, or get some cool tape that lights up in the dark. Carry a flashlight so you are easy to see, and you can see  where you’re going too. And if you have mask, make sure that you can see things around you.
  • It may be hard to do, but wait to eat that candy until an adult has checked it to make sure it’s sealed. And remember what you’ve always been told....NEVER take candy from strangers!
  • Keep away from candles or flames. They can be dangerous if they get near your costume.

Halloween is a time for fun, and trick-or-treat is one of the best parts of the holiday. Have a great time, and keep safe out there.
