After Hours and Weekends: A Marketing & Corporate Communications representative is on-call to respond to general media inquiries, breaking news stories and patient conditions by paging 919-470-4636 and entering pin# 4111. We do not provide patient condition updates between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Eastern time.

Durham Regional Hospital follows American Hospital Association guidelines, which require that media provide the hospital with a patient’s full name before we can release condition information. The hospital will release a one-word condition report on the patient’s status.

We do not report any information on child protection, victims of violence, mental health or substance abuse.

Patient Condition Definitions

Good -- Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious and comfortable. Indicators are excellent.

Fair -- Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious, but may be uncomfortable. Indicators are favorable.

Serious -- Vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill. Indicators are questionable.

Critical -- Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable.

Scheduling Interviews

A reporter or photographer interested in covering stories at Durham Regional Hospital should contact a representative from Marketing & Corporate Communications. We are happy to assist you by arranging interviews and photo opportunities with medical experts and patients.

To ensure the privacy of our patients, we require that members of the media are escorted at all times while on Durham Regional property.
