Durham, NC- The Duke Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery has moved their outpatient clinic to an expanded state-of-the-art facility located at Durham Regional Hospital's Health Services Center, 407 Crutchfield Street, Durham, NC 27704.
Durham Regional Hospital assumed the management of services provided in the Duke Center for Metabolic & Weight Loss Surgery in November. The hospital also updated its operating rooms and added six bariatric inpatient suites, designed to meet the needs of weight loss surgery patients. All surgical procedures performed by the program are done at Durham Regional.
In October, Ranjan Sudan, MD, was welcomed as the new Medical Director for the Duke Center for Metabolic & Weight Loss Surgery. Dr. Sudan has previously been the director of bariatric and robotic surgery programs at Creighton University and University of Nebraska. He is board certified in General Surgery as well as Adult and Child psychiatry. Dr. Sudan's interests include laparoscopic/robotic bariatric surgery and GI surgery as well as endoscopy.
"The new clinic has been specifically designed to cater to bariatric surgery patients and include appropriate access, equipment, examining rooms and personnel," says Dr. Sudan. "Our patients and providers have immediately noticed the difference and are thrilled with the changes."
The program performs both Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and Lap Band procedures. Patients lose an average of 60 to 80 percent of their excess weight, and almost all see significant improvement- sometimes complete remission- of health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol problems and sleep apnea.
