You will remain in the recovery room for approximately 30
minutes. Nurses will monitor your blood pressure, pulse and
breathing and give you something to drink. Your driver/family
member will be paged back to be with you. The doctor will come
out to talk with you both. Your driver is your advocate and
will be given your discharge instructions. These instructions
are specific to you. Please make sure you follow them. Many
patients go home groggy. This is perfectly normal, and the best
place to be is at home in your own bed.
For all patients, it is advisable to have someone stay with
you for the first 24 hours. If a C-PAP OR Bi-PAP machine was
used during your procedure, even if you do not routinely use it
at home, you must wear it at home for the first 24 hours when
sleeping to prevent any respiratory complications.
A nurse will call you within the next few days to make sure
you are fully recovered and to answer any questions or
concerns. Due to Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations, if you are unavailable,
we cannot leave any messages on your answering machine or with
other family members. If you have an urgent need, call
919-470-6172.
