Heart Services

At Durham Regional Hospital, we're dedicated to your recovery...heart and soul. We feel our role is to provide the complete scope of cardiovascular services expected in any tertiary level hospital. And, to provide these services at the highest level possible, in a convenient, personalized manner expected in a community hospital setting.

The full spectrum of support personnel in nephrology, pulmonary and cardiac anesthesiology is available. Services include :

  • All non-invasive testing: exercise testing, nuclear exercise testing, echocardiography, stress echocardiography, pharmacological stress testing, Holter monitoring
  • Diagnostic cardiac catheterization
  • Therapeutic cardiac catheterization procedures, both elective and emergency. This includes angioplasty, stenting, intervascular ultrasound, etc.
  • Peripheral vascular diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including renal, carotid and abdominal aneurysms.
  • Electrophysiology Laboratory is available for cardiac electrophysiology procedures, which check the heart’s electric signals. These electric signals determine how fast your heart should beat. If your heart rate goes to fast or too slow, we will test it to find out why this is happening.
  • The complete spectrum of cardiac surgical procedures in an adult population:
    • Coronary by-pass grafting
    • Valve replacement
    • Valve repair
    • Vascular surgery—including aortic and abdominal aneurysms and rupture, peripheral vascular, etc.

The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory team and Surgical Services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to meet any cardiac or vascular emergency. Routine cardiovascular testing can be scheduled in a manner convenient for the patent, including weekends for most services.
