Nurse-Midwives
Certified nurse-midwives are registered nurses who have graduated from a nurse-midwifery masters-degree program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME) and have passed a national certification exam. They are trained and capable of providing individualized care during pregnancy and birth, from one that’s medication-free to a birth that uses medications and anesthesia. Certified midwifery care, similar to care by a nurse practitioner, is typically covered under most health care insurance plans.
