Special Services is comprised of Respiratory Care, Cardiology and Neurosensory Testing. Special Services provides the complete spectrum of therapeutic and diagnostic cardiopulmonary and neurosensory care for patients of all age groups in the inpatient and outpatient setting.
Respiratory Care coverage is provided by a staff of credentialed Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP) with complete assessment and care planning capabilities to provide the most appropriate, safe, cost effective modalities to meet all the patient’s cardiopulmonary needs. Diagnostic procedures include complete Pulmonary Function testing and Arterial Blood Gas analysis. RCPs administer procedures under the medical advice of a board certified pulmonologist on staff at Durham Regional Hospital.
A staff of cardiology technicians and credentialed Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographers perform cardiology diagnostic testing under the medical advice of a board certified cardiologist. Diagnostic tests include: Graded Exercise testing, Nuclear Stress Testing, Stress Echocardiography, EKG, Holter monitoring, Echocardiography, and TEES (transesophageal echocardiography).
Neurosensory diagnostic testing is performed by a staff of credentialed Electroencephalogographic Technologists under the medical advice of a board certified neurologist.
