At Durham Regional Hospital, bariatric surgery patients are usually admitted to the general surgery unit, where the nursing staff is familiar with your needs and concerns.
Durham Regional Hospital has six inpatient suites on this unit specifically designed to meet the needs of weight loss surgery patients. In addition, Durham Regional Hospital has two operating rooms dedicated to serving bariatric patients.
Weight loss surgery procedures performed at Durham Regional Hospital include:
- Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
- Laparoscopic gastric banding
- Sleeve gastrectomy
- Duodenal switch

To apply to the Duke Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery, we request prospective patients first attend a free seminar that provides information about obesity, surgery, and our multidisciplinary program.
The weight loss surgery information seminars are held at our outpatient clinic in Durham.
